"Coal Colony" instead of "coal county."
Well I'm practically jumping mad of peoples argument that coal jobs where great. Well they payed well compared to the
available jobs in the area, paying less then say automotive production jobs in Georgetown. Actually even David makes
more working at Hitachi. And coal jobs where/are dangerous. I personally know about half a dozen people that where
killed or almost killed in the last 20 years. And they have basically wrecked large areas of South Eastern Kentucky. I'm
not so naive that I don't think you should never engage in industries like coal mining, but some of the money should be
used to make sustainable economies in the area. But that's not what happened, south eastern Kentucky was and still is
being used as a raw mineral resource colony. No different then Western nations treated Africa in the past. Take all the
natural wealth and then leave the people with nothing when your done with them, even simple things like corporate land
tax in SE Kentucky are practically criminal, companies pay literally pennies on the acre of land here. They don't care that
they need roads and bridges to move there coal out, they can just tax the people that live here for the roads.
