You know, I really enjoy the ideal for a fare and reasonable debate between different sides of a issue. Which I simply don't get anymore. Because the right has lost its mind.
So the question I now have after a discussion on facebook is simply this.
Why does the new super-conservative part of the US population defend shitbags?
When I say shit bags I don't mean people I don't agree with.
I mean terrible people.
Cliven Bundy. A clearly racist, well fare queen who lies to TV stations about how long his family has been on there land. (Hint it was the 1970's not a hundred years) And supports people who point weapons at law enforcement. (Which is only a bad thing when the law enforcement is fire tear gas at protesters, its not OK If they are rounding up well fare queen's cattle)
Teb Nuggent. A admitted draft dodger, and convinced pedophile. Who is just a pretty much unpleasant person to listen to on top of it all.
And finally..
David Koresh... Ya that David Koresh.
Apparently the right now sells him as a peaceful christian who was persecuted.
Not a man who was wanted to illegal weapons charges.
Had sex with at least 21 children under the age of 14, and very likely many many more.
And who built a compound that was a practical fortress.
Now lets not misunderstand this statement.
The Waco Indecent was a tragedy and a huge bungle on the part of ATF agents. BUT.
I would argue it was always going to be a bad outcome. Why?

Now it was a mistake to use the munitions they did.
But lets not misunderstand Koresh was a Criminal, a terrible human being, the option of leaving him there to do as he wanted was not exceptable.
That is unless you support Pedophiles.,.. Which I'm really starting to think the far-right does.
I don't speak for all on the right, but I do not support those people or what they stand for. I completely agree with you on the Bundy clan and Ted Nuggent. But the Waco incident however was a total quagmire. It was a top down investigation, by that I mean the reports of abuse and modified weapons did not come from a victim, complaining witness or even local law enforcement. They came from the justice department and circumvented local law enforcement. Even more disgusting than that is the motivation, this operation was what is known as a ZBO, or Zee Big One. It was even in the name "Operation Showtime" they had camera crews on site filming the raid. On top of that the tactics used were not proper for law enforcement to use. They hid on property in cattle trailers hooked up to pick up trucks for way too long waiting on the news agencies they asked to be there to arrive. They never looked for corroborating evidence or spoke to a victim, they just watched to confirm David Karesh's presence at the compound before getting the warrant. I don't know if the claims against the man were true or not, but I know the evidence was destroyed in the fire, the victims statements were lost forever, we can never go back and examine the weapons in the condition they were in before the fire. All of that is lost to history. Now how could this have been avoided? By using proper police investigative techniques, reach out to the local head LEO, and ask about the allegations. Speak to victims. Create an innocuous reason to call him and speak to him, then ask about the weapons when he comes in. At that point try and approach the topic as if you are trying to disprove the allegations. Now it probably would not have worked and I say that based on Karesh's public statements. But it would have exhausted all options before the cartel style raid on the compound that killed the very children they wanted to save. But all that aside you are right that these three are not the heros some try to make them out to be. In fact they are fucking assholes.
ReplyDeleteYou are 100% right. And by all means I never meant to state that all conservatives defend them. But unfortunately a disturbing amount do. Far to many of the people a talk to try to defend the actions of these people.
DeleteI forgot to explain the point a ZBO. The reason for operations like this are to justify budget increases, they pull out all the new equipment and use more man power than needed because if a law enforcement agency finishes the fiscal year under budget their funding gets cut by the excess. But by using up the extra money the agency gets an increase
